Eye Treatment

Eyebrow Shaping

To shape brows:

You best brow shape is your natural one. Tweeze or wax brows no further than the inner corner of the eye, taper slightly towards outer end. When tweezing hairs should be plucked out in the direction of the hair growth, when waxing brow wax strip is pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth. Once the eyebrows has been tweezed or waxed to the desired shape then a toner or witch hazel gel should be applied not only to cool area but also to avoid in growing hairs.

Eyebrow and Eyelash Tinting

A patch test is always required at least 24 hours before tinting (it only takes a couple of minutes) in case the client is allergic to the tint. Even if the client has had tinting done before a patch test must still be done in case a different type of dye is used. Cleanse eyes and eyebrow before treatment. Apply Vaseline around eyelids this acts as a barrier and stops dye from staining the skin. Damp cotton wool coated with Vaseline is placed under the lower lashes to protect the skin from dye. With clients eyes closed apply tint to lower lashes then upper lashes, place damp cotton wool over lashes and leave on for at lease 10 minutes. With clients eyes shut remove cotton wool, using warm water wash tint from clients eyes, dry eyes then apply eye cream. When tinting eyebrows apply tint to eyebrow without it getting on the surrounding areas leave on for a few minuets the remove with damp cotton wool.

Hand and Feet Treatment

The real beauty of Nailtiques is that there are quick and simple to use products for everyone. Whether your problem revolves around peeling nails or dry, flaky skin, or simply want a maintenance programme to keep your nails in tiptop condition all year round.

Pedicure

What is a pedicure?

  • A pedicure is a treatment for your feet.
  • A pedicurist removes dead skin, softens hard skin and shapes and treats toenails, and also massages softening and soothing cream into your foot to make it feel as though you are walking on air.
  • Is it the same as chiropody?
  • A chiropodist is a medically trained professional who is qualified to treat diagnosed medical problems and do preventive care on your feet. This may involve minor surgical procedures such as cutting of dead skin, and treating in growing toenails.

A pedicurist is not a chiropodist; a pedicure is not a medical procedure, although a regular pedicure can support the work you’re having done by a chiropodist, and in fact prevent you from needing further treatment.

Precautions:

If you have any fungal or other foot infections, it is better for your feet and, frankly, for your therapist, if you get those treated medically first.

What to expect from a pedicure:

  • A pedicure usually begins with a footbath or spa, where your feet are soaked and cleansed in warm, scented water. Some footbaths are like a min Jacuzzi for your feet.
  • Cream will be massaged into your feet to refresh and soften your skin. Some pedicures include a healing or antiseptic oil or cream on your feet. You may also have an exfoliating rub with salts or minerals to slough off dead skin.
  • Your cuticles will be removed, and your toenails cut and shaped, using oils to soften them beforehand.
  • Your pedicure will usually close with a massage of your feet and lower legs and possibly another soak in the footbath before a good quality polish is applied to your nails.

Hot tip:

Your choice of footwear is really important when you go for a pedicure.

Whilst ordinary shop-bought nail polish usually dries completely within five minutes or so, proper pedicure standard nail polish may take up to 12 hours to dry completely! You don’t want to have to push those nails into socks and trainers for your cycle home. Whatever you arrive in, make sure that you have flip-flops or open sandals to wear when you leave.

Even if you aren’t having nail varnish applied in your pedicure, you’re unlikely to want to throw your feet straight back to the tough work of pounding you around the street in a pair of court shoes. Give your feet a break and take something more comfortable with you to wear afterwards.

A good pedicure is heaven, and will leave you feeling fresh, light and relaxed. Your feet will probably look and feel better than they have for years. You’ll want to look at them and show them off, and will make rash promises to yourself about how much better care you’ll take of them in future.

There are lots of different foot treatments available now in spas and in specialist centres on the high street, Usually, the difference between them is just the type of products used and the sequence they’re used in. They may also have a different way of cutting or "dressing" the nails. You can usually tell what you’re going to get from a spa’s description of the treatment.

Massage

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the art of using essential oils to help restore balance in the body, and is a form of natural healing which is more than 8,000 years old.

Aromatherapy is a truly holistic therapy, as it aims to treat the whole person by taking account not only of their physical state but also their emotion, which can have a profound effect on general well being. It works on the principle that the most effective way to promote health and prevent illness is to strengthen the body’s immune: in so doing, it helps to restore the harmony between mind and body.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a gentle form of Therapeutic treatment applied to the feet and sometimes to the hands. It evolved around 1913 from the work of Dr. William H Fitzgerald, an ear Nose and throat surgeon in the United States. Reflexology is considered to be a holistic healing technique that aims to treat the individual as a whole, in order to induce a state of balance and harmony in body, mind and spirit. Reflexology is basic on the belief that there are reflex areas on the feet (and hands) corresponding to all the parts of the body including major organs. It is believed that applying pressure to specific areas on the hands, feet and ears can affect internal organs and body systems, and therefore good health. The therapist stimulates and works these organs through the reflexes areas on the hands and feet, applying pressure to the feet with thumb and fingers. Pressure is applied to clear out congestion and restore normal functioning and health.

Chinese immigrants brought reflexology to America in the early 1900s.

Swedish Massage

The term Swedish massage refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of Lactic acid, uricacid and other metabolic waste. It increases circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. Swedish massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical and is suggested in a regular program for stress management

Swedish doctor named Per Henrik Ling developed Swedish massage in the 1700s.

Indian Head Massage

Massaging the head can do much to relieve stress and tension that fill our day-to-day life. The massage involves controlled movements such as spider walking, root pull and combing. This treatment focuses mainly on the face and scalp, but should include the upper back, neck, shoulders and arms. This massage has a strong effect on the three higher charkas of the seven –mind, body and spirit. Chakra(wheel) is the energy that we need to remain balanced. As the massage works on the shoulders and neck the relief of tension is felt almost immediately. As well as easing headaches and stress it also helps scalp and hair problems, aids localised blood and lymphatic circulation, relieves eyestrain muscle tension. This treatment is particularly good for people who are wheelchair bound or partially immobile. Hair should be fairly clean this treatment is also done with client fully clothed.

Hair Removal

Waxing

What is waxing?

Unwanted hair is coated with Hot or warm wax and pulled out by the roots when the wax is removed. This treatment can be used on legs, bikini line, underarms, upper lip and chin. A Brazilian or Hollywood wax removers hair from a larger area of the pubes area. It can be done in the salon or you can by a kit and do it yourself at home. Waxing is also becoming more popular with men who have chest, back, stomach, arms, legs, and ears, nose and even bum cheeks plus the scrotum treated.

What waxing can do?

Waxing quickly removes unwanted hair.

What waxing cannot do?

It cannot stop hair growth but can slow down re-growth

What happens during treatment?

Waxing can be quite uncomfortable especially the first time its done. The skin will be cleansed before treatment with either an application of powder or oil applied to the area to be waxed. This stops the wax sticking to the skin. Warm wax is applied to the area then removed using a wax strip made of either paper or cloth. If using Hot wax the wax is applied on to skin quit thick its then left to cool the removed. When area has been treated a soothing after wax lotion is applied. Treatment needs repeating every 4-6 weeks.

Results

Skin may become red this may last a few hours. Re-growth is finer than before, treatment becomes less uncomfortable has hair follicles become weaker.

Electrolysis

Consultation

A consultation must be booked prior to your first treatment.

What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the longest established method of permanent hair removal. Electrolysis has the longest known track record together with the most effective results for hair removal. Dr Charles Michel first used it successfully in 1875 to remove ingrown eyelashes. He discovers that once the follicle had been treated with electrolysis the hair was permanently destroyed.

Electrolysis (epilation) works by passing a small amount of energy into the hair follicle through a very fine needle. This produces heat which destroys the cells that produce the hair at the base of the follicle More than one treatment will be necessary due to the fact that hair follicles have a specific hair growth cycle.

There are three proven methods of electrolysis. Galvanic electrolysis the original method, achieves excellent result due to the chemical reaction produced within the hair follicle. However it is slow and has been replaced by short-wave diathermy this produce heat which is faster but is not quit as thorough as galvanic. To over come this slight draw back the third method know as Blend was developed in 1949 this combines the benefits of galvanic and short wave diathermy.

Electrolysis is suitable for men and women, under 16 years old will need a G.P approval.
